about coast & country pilates
Coast & Country Pilates was founded in 2026 by Emily who wanted to bring her love of the coast, countryside and Pilates together to create a welcoming space where people can slow down, make time for movement, and reconnect with their bodies.Â
Â
Coast & Country Pilates prides itself on offering small group classes, allowing me the time to get to know everyone individually and provide the guidance and support you need throughout each session. My aim is to help you move well, build confidence and enjoy the journey. Whether you've never stepped onto a Pilates mat before or have years of experience, you'll always be warmly welcomed here. Everyone who joins a class becomes part of the Coast & Country Pilates community.
Â
Every class is tailored to the individuals in the room, ensuring everyone feels comfortable and supported. As my classes are mixed ability, I offer different levels and variations of each exercise so that everyone can work at a pace and level that feels right for their own body. Pilates isn't about competing with the person on the mat next to you or pushing yourself beyond what feels comfortable. It's about taking time for yourself, listening to your body and appreciating that every day is different. Some days you'll feel stronger, some days you may need to slow down—and that's absolutely okay.
Â
Why Body Control Pilates?Â
I teach Body Control Pilates, widely recognised as the gold standard of Pilates education and teaching. It is remarkably effective and medically approved. It works holistically, based upon a well-constructed philosophical foundation.Â
Â
A the heart of the Body Control Pilates Method is ‘awareness of your own body’ and each and every exercise is built around its eight basic principles: Relaxation, Concentration, Co-ordination, Centring, Alignment, Breathing, Stamina and Flowing Movements.
Â
By working on the deep architectural structure of the body, ‘core stability’ is achieved, and then maintained, through increasingly complex movement sequences. Specific problem-areas can be targeted by an exercise, but always in relation to the rest of one’s body. As your awareness grows, you'll begin to move with greater ease, improve your posture, develop better balance and flexibility, and feel more in control of your body. Many people also find that Pilates helps them manage stress more effectively, creating a sense of calm that extends well beyond the mat.
About Emily
Hello! I'm Emily, a fully qualified Body Control Pilates Teacher passionate about two things. Life in the countryside and Pilates. In 2025, I decided to train with Body Control Pilates, the UKs highly accredited and leading Pilates education provider. After months of hard work, dedication and lots of training hours, I qualified as a Certified Body Control Pilates teacher in July 2026. Following this, I decided to bring my love of the coast, countryside and Pilates together and set up Coast & Country Pilates.
I found Pilates after being diagnosed with hypermobility in my early 20s and really struggled with joint stability and lack of strength. I decided to join a local Pilates class…rather reluctantly I might add! But after just a few sessions, I absolutely fell in love with it. I felt stronger and developed a much better awareness of my own body. Not only this but Pilates also helped me mentally. It gave me time and space to really focus on the movement and allowed the hustle and bustle of everyday life to take a pause. It was lovely to be part of a group class, meet new people and make friends as time went on.
As my love for Pilates grew, so did my desire to help others experience those same benefits. I knew I wanted to train to become a Pilates teacher and help others to improve their everyday life and movement.
When I am not teaching my group classes or 1-1 sessions, I love being outdoors. You will usually find me around the local area either on long walks along the coast or out on Dartmoor or I'll be out on the water on my Paddleboard.
Welcome to Coast & Country Pilates, I really look forward to you coming and joining us.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to have done Pilates before?Â
Not at all. My classes are suitable for complete beginners as well as those with previous Pilates experience. Every exercise can be adapted to suit different abilities, so you can work at a level that feels comfortable and right for your body.
What do I need to bring?
All you need to bring is yourself, a mat and some water! Whether that is wearing odd socks or a matching two peice...everyone is welcome here. I will provide all equipment needed including head cushions and bands however you are also more than welcome to bring your own equipment if you have this. I also have a few extra mats, so please do not worry if you don't yet have one, you can borrow one.Â
What to expect?
At the beginning of each class I will check how everyone is feeling. From there we will move into a lovely class of gentle movement where you can move at your own level depending on how you are feeling on that day. We will focus on our breath, alignment and moving with precision.Â
What if I can't make a class?
That is no problem. I run multiple classes in the local area across the week, so where possible I will be able to offer you a swap where you can attend another class so you don't miss out.Â
How many people will there be in the class?
I only run small group classes with a maximum of 12 people per class. This allows me to work with everyone, make adaptations and tailor the class. It also creates a really nice environment that doesn't feel too busy!Â
